Confusing Appointment

Writer: Lisa EhrmanLisa Ehrman

Sometimes, going to appointments can be so confusing! My ultrasound appointment was not what I thought it would be. I feared that the rash on my breast might be Inflammatory Breast Cancer. When my GP saw it, she immediately suggested that I get it scanned.

I've been getting mammograms for many years. Because of dense tissue, I have often been sent afterwards to get an ultrasound. Radiologists have thought that there might be something bad and sent me on to get an ultrasound.

My ultrasound went smoothly, but at the end I was surprised. The technician told me to wait while she talks to the doctor. She wanted him to check out what she had seen. That wasn't a good sign.

The surprise came when she saw something unusual in my right breast. So, the rash was nothing more than a rash. Hubby thought that was great! But, I was just scared.

I was taken to get a mammogram immediately. The mammogram only took two views on each breast. In the past, I've had more views taken and observed.

A few minutes later the nurse came in and said that the mammogram looked normal and that the doctor would see me again in six months. I freaked out in my mind, even though I acted calm.

I asked the nurse to let me see the doctor and ask him a question. He came right back and I asked him about the ultrasound. I was always told that the ultrasound is used to investigate something seen on the ultrasound.

He said that I could wait six months or he could do a biopsy now. I decided to do the biopsy now. I need to know for sure what is happening in my body. I knew that I would go nuts waiting six months.

So, next week the doctor will do a needle biopsy with ultrasound to guide the doctor. I feel really good about this. My body is always giving me these surprises and I have expected that someday I would be told that I have cancer.

I know that sounds morbid to think that way, but it just seems like a natural progression. Once I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome I have had a new diagnosis every time I go to a new doctor.

It's kind of like the Avascular Necrosis. The doctor discovered AVN in my Talus and it wasn't long before my right wrist was throbbing. The scans showed that two wrist bones also had AVN.

Unfortunately, my left wrist has been throbbing for a week. It also has some swelling. I am dreading the possibility that there are dead bones in it, too. It looks like I'm due for many experimental-type surgeries.

I am really able to put these out of my mind pretty well. I keep my mind busy by praying, reading promises of God in the Bible, and watching tv. Mysteries are great for putting things out of your mind.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Verses like this are comforting and remind me of God's grace and love.
