Light at the End of the Tunnel

This week the doctor gave me a lot of encouragement and hope for the near future. I rolled myself to the orthopedics department and was quickly taken back for x-rays. That was done quickly and then my doctor came in.

He was very pleased with the healing of my ankle. There was some swelling, but he said that it was minor at this stage. I'm now putting 75% of my weight on the ankle while using a walker. I'm getting much better at standing up, grabbing the walker handles and walking to the bathroom and back.
Next Wednesday I'll be able to put 100% of my weight on the foot while I'm still using the walker. A week after that I can stop using the walker when I feel balanced and comfortable. When I get one more week I'll be able to take off the boot and just wear a soft brace.
By then, we will have moved. I'm in the process of getting an appointment in my new town. I've sent all the forms needed to get this done. I will see the new doctor as soon as possible. He'll have to check on the ankle and advise my continuing care of it.
I'm nervous about getting a new doctor, but I think my doctor has been excellent. Even he admits that although the talus fits perfectly and looks great now, there is not much long-term evidence of success. I'm going to pray that it works forever.
I love the feeling of standing and walking. When the ability to walk is taken away from you, there is a real thrill when you can get on your feet again.
I have learned over and over that it's important to appreciate every little thing that my body can do. I have too many body parts that are malfunctioning. I often pay attention to those good things.
We're packing up for our move and it's pretty horrible. Hubby is working hard, and it's definitely too much work for him. I can't do everything that I need to do either. I sit in the wheelchair with my leg propped up and pack what I can.
Hubby and I take many breaks to rest and I use ice packs on my wrists and ankle. Until we move, the packing will take all of our time and energy. In the past, I could pack up our entire home (which was much bigger) in 3 days up until 2 weeks.
I believe that we'll be able to get it all done, but it will be a challenge. All challenges have positive sides, if we look for them. I know if I keep praying daily, that God will show me the purpose and give me joy.

I moved to a small town, 3 hours from our lifelong home, and it was so hard. We have retired to a country place. I will never move again.
Sending my prayers
Praying for you and your move. I am so thankful that your ankle is healing well!
This is some good news! Sounds like you are healing and that is such blessing. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
