Yesterday was tiring after my trip to get a CT scan of my chest. I was happily surprised to see that the test results were posted last night. When I saw the summary, I saw a mixed bag.
The doctor who read the results commented that the scan had yet to be read by my doctor. The rheumatologist wanted to check my lungs for ILD, because it can occur as a result of having Sjogren's.
That was the best part of the test results - I don't have ILD.
The CT scan also showed a few other things:
Moderate expiratory air trapping suggesting small airways disease such as asthma or constrictive bronchiolitis. This was bad news to me, because my dad had severe asthma and severe bronchial problems. His father had severe emphysema. I've been wheezing off and on for the last few years with shortness of breath quite often. Heart tests reveal that shortness of breath isn't coming from the heart.
I have a few small lung nodules, which are most likely benign. When I had the same test in 2019, I only had one small nodule. I would really like to know how important that change is.
I have a mild T9 vertebral body compression deformity. When I googled this, it said that it is a spine compression fracture that causes a loss of height. When the vertebrae collapses there can be severe pain and deformity. The T9 is close to the rib and has a unique shape.
I'm not surprised about the spine compression fracture. I've been shrinking already and have deformity as my head juts forward when it was inline with my shoulders before.
I worry about the increase in nodules and the potential for cancer.
I'm very concerned about the small airways disease comment. Asthma is in my family and I do have quite a few symptoms. I really hate to think of taking more medications. And, some other small airways diseases are worse than Asthma.
Since we've begun a new year, my deductible hasn't been met. The CT scan will be paid out-of-pocket. With tests and surgery ahead, I'm sure I'll meet the deductible very soon.
It's hard to pay off credit card bills, because of Christmas, as well as big medical and medicine bills. Hospitals are great about allowing monthly payments. That's a great service, especially until my deductible is met.
I hope you start the new year without flares or new health problems. Take good care of yourself, as much as you can. Many times taking care of yourself is just trying to survive the day. God bless.
